CRAZY TIMES, CRAZY PEOPLE: BOB DYLAN SONGS

Markos Untzeta from Eibar began to give his first concerts back in 1996 at The White Swan Pub in England, and since he published his first album in 2002 he has carefully cultivated a beautiful and honest career as a folk-pop-country troubadour in the style of his admired classics of the genre. With that gritty, deep and unmistakable voice that never seeks unnecessary prominence to let his songs breathe, he fills each of those albums that his fans so eagerly await with new and moving stories.

But this new album is even more special if possible. Markos himself has very accurately described it as the happy closing of a circle in his career, one of those magical moments that give meaning to a whole life dedicated to music. This is how he must have felt when he found out that Xabier Paya had translated 100 songs by Bob Dylan, his beloved teacher and inspiration since those distant days of the White Swan, into Basque, and immediately began recording versions of his favourites.

Markos has decided to publish these versions little by little and, for the moment, exclusively in digital format. He thus presents himself with a first installment of 4 timeless Dylan classics.

It cannot be said that his versions are stylistically groundbreaking. Nor do they need to be. That is not the intention or the key. It is in the sincere and intense love for the original where their charm and beauty reside. Even for those of us who know these songs so often performed, they sound here as if we were hearing them for the first time. They revive in our minds the memory of that moment when we fell in love with the lyrics and melodies of the wizard from Duluth. And that is a treasure very much ours. Both in English and in Basque.
