September 21|9:00 pm-11:30 pm
Alein Steinbert and Alex Cobo are two experienced and renowned guitarists whose common influences lie in contemporary jazz and improvised music. Steinbert studied under prominent musicians such as John Scofield, Joel Frahm, Mike Stern, and Leo Genovese. He has had a long career as a composer and guitarist and released his first work, Tiempo Presente, as a leader in 2019. He has collaborated with Perico Sambeat, Lucía Martínez, Gustavo Díaz, and Steinar Nickelsen, among others. Tutored by masters such as Peter Bernstein, Jesse Van Ruller or Vicente Archer, Madrid-born guitarist Alex Cobo has emerged as one of the most relevant figures of the jazz scene, co-leading and participating in different projects over time and combining his facet as a composer and guitarist with an incessant activity as a music teacher.
After attending the Seminar of Jazz and Modern Music in Málaga in 2018, they launched their duo project, performing extensively over two years before eventually becoming a quartet. For their debut album, they collaborated with Ander García, a Basque double bass player who graduated from Musikene. His acclaimed albums as a bandleader, Ttun Kurrun and Hiru and Hiru, have established him as a key figure in the jazz scene. Like Ander, Andalusian drummer Nacho Megina is a Musikene graduate and founding member of the Andalucía Big Band. He is also a regular collaborator with musicians such as Antonio Serrano, Carlos Martín, Carlos Barreto, and Jorge Pardo. This makes him one of the most sought-after musicians and an essential reference in the contemporary jazz scene in his country.
