JOAN PAU CUMELLAS, PAUL SAN MARTIN & ROMAIN GRATALON

November 21| 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Paul San Martín belongs to that group of classically trained musicians who grasp the profound significance of Black music—and the blues in particular—and who have dedicated themselves to exploring, researching, and cultivating this musical tradition over the years. Possessing an exceptional level of mastery, he has become a key figure—both as a pianist and a singer—across the national music scene. His expertise is the result of years spent on the road, countless collaborations with major artists, numerous tours, and contributions to a wide array of recordings; above all, it reflects the musical maturity and talent of this artist from San Sebastián. He is a musician who draws upon a rich spectrum of influences within the genre, and who has, in his own right, become a true point of reference for many.

Renowned for his skill on the diatonic harmonica, Joan Pau Cumellas is a devoted student of the instrument, constantly exploring its sonic potential across a variety of musical contexts. Through his work with groups such as the Barcelona Bluegrass Band and Mr. Hurricane Band—as well as collaborations with artists like Quico Pi de la Serra, Big Mama, Miguel Talavera, and Valentí Moya—he has proven himself a musician capable of seamlessly blending blues with jazz, country, and folk music.
In addition to his work as a studio and commercial session musician, he has contributed to dozens of albums spanning genres from children’s music and gospel to boleros and pop-rock (including projects with Manolo García, Moncho, and Sam Lardner). He performs at major blues, jazz, and folk festivals throughout Spain and is well-known in France, England, Ireland, Switzerland, Poland, and the Netherlands for his appearances at significant festivals within these genres.

Romain Gratalon (born in Dax, 1989) is a creative musician whose contributions are essential to understanding the dynamism of today’s jazz scene. For over fifteen years, he has served as the regular drummer for the acclaimed harmonica player Nico Wayne Toussaint and the pianist Paul San Martín.
