CRAZY TIME, LIGHT PEOPLE : DYLAN’S SONGS
Singer-songwriter Markos Untzeta started playing his first concerts back in 1996 at The White Swan Pub in England, and since releasing his first album in 2002 he has carefully cultivated a beautiful and honest folk-troubadour careerpop-country in the manner of his beloved classics of the genre. With that sandy, deep and unmistakable voice that never seeks the unnecessary prominence to let their songs breathe, that fills with new and moving stories each of those albums that eagerly wait for their fans.
But this new album is even more special. Markos himself has quite rightly described it as the happy closing of a circle in his career, one of those magical moments that give meaning to a life dedicated to music. This must have been how he felt when he learned that Xabier Paya had translated 100 songs of Bob Dylan, his beloved teacher and inspiration from those distant days of the White Swan, into Basque and immediately recorded versions of his favorites.
Markos has decided to publish these versions gradually and for the time being, exclusively in digital format. It is thus presented with a first edition of 4 timeless Dylanian classics.
You can’t say that their versions are stylistically disruptive. Nor do they need to be. That’s not the intention or the key. It is in the sincere and intense love for the original where lies its charm and beauty. Even for those of us who know about these often-performed themes, they sound as if we were hearing them for the first time. Relive in our mind the memory of that moment when we fell in love with the lyrics and melodies of the sorcerer of Duluth. And that is a treasure of ours. Both in English and in Basque.
New topics will be published in the coming months. Stay tuned, a torrential and refreshing rain is announced.
