Nevermind 3

The echo of the tremendous musical and artistic explosion caused by Nirvana’s “Nevermind” can still be heard all over the world, and of course in the Basque Country. That tsunami not only influenced musicians and rock bands that were close to that sound, but also many others that, at first glance, would be considered far away from Seattle electric trio. Our protagonists undoubtedly belong to the second group. Ainara Ortega (vocals), Aritz Luzuriaga (double bass), Jorge Abadías (electric guitar) and Hasier Oleaga (drums and percussion) decided in 2008 to mix their passion for Nirvana with their natural musical jazz language and fill it with a grunge attitude. That is how they created Nevermind People, a band that mixed vanguard, tradition, courage, freshness, and intensity, in a number of live performances and recordings that would leave fans from that time speechless.
Throughout their extensive journey, the band has shifted between different line-ups and members. Ainara left the band shortly after its inception, having primarily performed as an instrumental trio since then, both in their original lineup, replacing the double bass with Julen Izarra´s always colorful and intense tenor and soprano saxophone.

All the members of Nevermind  are musicians with a significant presence both in Errabal jazz label releases and in our local music scene. Hasier Oleaga has performed with The Heckler, Teresa Zabalza’s quintet, Ruper Ordorika and Mikel Laboa. Julen Izarra has been seen and enjoyed in Trizak. Jorge Abadías has a long career that includes Endavant, Tapan group, Keices, Marcos Sánchez Quinteto, Wachisneis, Perro verde, etc., and has released excellent records under his own name such as “A tablero” or “Zuri”.

Old-new, new-old, grunge-jazz or jazz-grunge, 2008 or 2024. What difference does it make? The chance to play with the eternal language of music is endless, when passion strikes us, time and style boundaries melt away like sugar cubes in a cup of coffee. So, let’s enjoy this delicious cup.
