Eric Surmenian

 

Eric Surmenian, musician, painter, and multifaceted artist studied classical double bass at the Conservatoire de Marseille, winner of the Grand Prix de Jazz in 1996 and cum laude at the Conservatoire d’Amsterdam. Over the years he has collaborated with artists such as Eric Barret, Guillaume de Chassy, Olivier Ker Ourio, Serge Lazavitch, Diederik Wissels, Erik Vermeulen, Ernst Reijseger, Jasper Blom, David Berkman, Tom Rainey, Perico Sambeat and Toots Thielemans, among others. He has recorded more than 30 albums and has worked for television, film, and renowned dance companies. Despite his solid foundation in jazz, he has done an outstanding job of exploring, expanding, and experimenting with the double bass’s sonic spectrum, crossing all stylistic boundaries, and perhaps even developing his own language.
