Born in Madrid, from a very young age Joaquín Chacón was heavily
influenced by his father’s flamenco roots. He studied at the Madrid Conservatory and was soon
attracted by jazz, a style which he learned to play at Spain’s first jazz
schools, although he also attended international seminars, before completing
his studies in Holland (Koninkligk Conservatorium) and Germany, with musicians
such as John Abercrombie, Dave Liebman, Joe Henderson, Barry Harris, Bruce Forman,
Richie Beirach, Bob Moses and Jerry Bergonzy, among others.
He became
a professional musician at the age of 24 and has worked on both his own
projects and as a sideman with musicians such as Mike Richmond, Chano
Domínguez, Uffe Markussen, Javier Colina, Jorge Pardo, Ben Besiakov, Jim
Snidero, Bobby Floyd, Ben Stivers, Keith Copeland,  Doug Raney, Al Foster,
Richie Cole, Billy Hart and Perico Sambeat. He has played in international
festivals in Mexico, Korea, Vietnam, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Morocco,
Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Zimbabwe and Angola, among others.
