The first disc of the ZZ Blues Band has 8 items sung
in Basque and English, 8 fresh, happy items bursting with rhythm. The song that
gives the group its name opens the recording with a blues melody that will
immediately strike the listener as familiar. Feeling R&B combines, in perfect harmony, the funk rhythms and
the liveliness of the guitars and harmonica; the musical journey continues with
Denbora luzea errepidean, an acoustic
item that takes us to the American West and which reminds us of Mikel Garikoitz
& Denali; lovers’ quarrels form a genre within black music and the ZZ Blues
Band makes its contribution with What if
I say
, a song appropriated to sing with the audience in concerts; then
comes the first of two renderings, the classical Hoochie Coochie Man of the great Muddy Waters: the young quartet is
daring with it and rises to the challenge well. Relaxing boogie is just that, a song to chill out, in which the
band’s members sing with much feeling. Rhythms that can be danced to return with
Funky doinuen lurraldean, and the
disc finishes with another mythical item, La Grange
by ZZ Top, on which the group from Soraluze imprints its own character. Siendo largo el camino, los chicos están
encarrilados
(the road is long, the kids are on course).
