Aritza Castro began his musical studies as a classical percussionist and expanded into modern music, thus developing a broad taste for musical genres. As a classical musician, he secured a position as a percussionist in the Barakaldo Municipal Band, where he currently resides. He has collaborated on numerous projects and performed in theaters and venues renowned for classical music, such as the San Sebastian Musical Fortnight, Musika Música, Euskalduna Palace, Lara Theater, etc., collaborating with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BAO), the Bilbao Sinfonietta, and others. He was also an integral member of Silboberri and Bertxistu as a drummer-percussionist, premiering several unpublished works by Rodrigo A. de Santiago.

As a drummer, he draws from a wide variety of styles, but gradually gravitated towards jazz. He began his studies in Bilbao with Peer Wiborys (Tete Montoliu), Borja Barrueta, and Carlos Carli at the Escuela de Música Creativa in Madrid. He eventually earned a degree specializing in jazz, studying at the Musikene and Navarra conservatories, and receiving instruction from Jorge Rossy, Jo Jrause, and many others. He co-founded the Haceria Jazz Club project in Bilbao, where he has shared the stage with some of the best in the Spanish jazz scene, such as Albert Vila, Moises P. Sánchez, and Andrzej Olejniczak. After playing in numerous jazz groups and performing at almost every festival on the Iberian Peninsula, including Jazzaldia, Vitoria-Gasteiz Jazz Festival, Jazz San Javier, and Iruña Jazz, he formed his own group, the “Aritza Castro Project,” recording the album FAMILIA in 2026.
