Settled in Barcelona since the nineties, but since his
native Bilbao and after passing through the Conservatory of Music of that same
city. Juan de Diego (trumpet) and Víctor de Diego (sax) careers have run both
jointly, in De Diego Brothers, and individually leading their own personal
projects and collaborating with countless reference musicians like Jesse Davis,
Idrish Muhammad, Randy Brecker, Phil Woods, Teddy Edwards, Nicholas Payton,
Jeff Ballard. Participating in numerous prestigious international festivals
such as Gasteiz, Terrassa, San Sebastián, Getxo, Vilajazz and Ezcaray.
Therefore taking part actively in the development of this genre throughout all
these years, but above all staying true to stylistic principles that are
specified throughout each and every one of these eight original compositions.
“Macarrones”, “Chiretas”, “Rock´s”, “Yeah”, “Me niego”, “Amor crónico”,
“Gostondriko”,” Mikro”.
Recorded and mixed by David García during April 2018
at Amigó 42 studios in Barcelona. De Diego Brothers joined by Abel Boquera on
hammond organ and Caspar St.Charles on drums offer us a journey through Jazz in
a very specific time frame that starts from the Bebop, the Cool or even the
Swing, placing us in musical spaces close to Hard Bop under the influence of
artists such as Horace Silver and with notorious winks to Lee Morgan right up
to compositions written by Jimmy Smith in the sixties and seventies due to the
extraordinary work done by the hammond organ and the band´s great execution. Achieving a fresh product,
splashed with Boogaloo, Funk or even Latin reminiscences, while retaining the
essence and coherence of a band whose trajectory is based on work, experience
over the last twenty-five years but mostly a remarkable quality at
international level.
