Skytrain

April 29, 2014

The “SKYTRAIN” project is a direct
successor of the JAZZ-ROCK trend
that emerged in the 1970s. It inherits the characteristic strength and energy
of this style while updating theme content in the form of original compositions
that connect with contemporary stuff in terms of sound, rhythm and texture.  Their live performances are convincing
and take the audience to a high level of involvement and communication because
it is a tremendously attractive show. To record this material, Mariano and
Joaquín wanted to have one of the great, direct exponents of the style, the great
saxophone player DAVE LIEBMAN; he recorded and toured with some of the most
electric groups in the MILES DAVIS band in the 1970s. Some of the most
representative figures in home-grown jazz, like PERICO SAMBEAT, JAVIER COLINA,
MARIO ROSSI and GUILLERMO MCGILL also collaborated in the project.

The work is getting wonderful reviews
from the specialised media and has been considered by several of them as one of
the 10 best albums of Jazz from across Spain released in 2013.

It is being presented live at Jazz
festivals and concert venues across the Iberian Peninsula, and in these live
concerts has the collaboration of a young emerging figure: the saxophone player
DANI JUAREZ, who is the talk of the town and who has become essential in many
of the most interesting projects in the latest batch of contemporary Jazz; the
veteran VICTOR MERLO, a solid bass player with expertise from thousands of
musical experiences, has also been collaborating.

THE BAND:

MARIANO DÍAZ, piano and keyboards

JOAQUÍN CHACÓN, guitar

DANI JUAREZ, tenor and soprano
saxophones

VICTOR MERLO, bass

GUILLERMO MCGILL, drums
